Arunachal Pradesh: Four Detained, Activists Held Over Siang Project Protests

Tension over the proposed Siang Upper Multipurpose Project escalated as the Upper Siang district administration ordered the preventive detention of four individuals under the Arunachal Pradesh Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 2014. This action follows a series of violent incidents, arson, and public safety threats in the region. Five anti-dam activists were taken into police custody in Pasighat, with two others arrested in Boleng. Authorities stated the move was necessary due to a tense and volatile law-and-order situation over the past four months, fueled by resistance to project feasibility activities.

सियांग अपर मल्टीपर्पस प्रोजेक्ट को लेकर तनाव बढ़ गया है, क्योंकि अपर सियांग जिला प्रशासन ने अरुणाचल प्रदेश गैरकानूनी गतिविधियां (रोकथाम) अधिनियम, 2014 के तहत चार लोगों को निवारक हिरासत में रखने का आदेश दिया है। यह कार्रवाई क्षेत्र में हिंसा, आगजनी और सार्वजनिक सुरक्षा को खतरे की घटनाओं की एक श्रृंखला के बाद हुई है। पांच बांध विरोधी कार्यकर्ताओं को पासीघाट में पुलिस हिरासत में लिया गया, जबकि दो अन्य को बोलेंग में गिरफ्तार किया गया। अधिकारियों ने कहा कि पिछले चार महीनों से परियोजना व्यवहार्यता गतिविधियों के विरोध के कारण उत्पन्न तनावपूर्ण और अस्थिर कानून-व्यवस्था की स्थिति के कारण यह कदम आवश्यक था।
