Tamil Nadu Firefighters Rescue More Animals Than Humans

TOI - Delhi · india

Tamil Nadu firefighters are increasingly dedicating their time to animal rescues, handling nearly five times more animal rescues than human lives saved between 2023 and 2025. Snakes constitute the vast majority of these calls, with nearly 97,279 snake-related incidents reported between January and September this year alone. Firefighters also responded to numerous calls involving cows, dogs, cats, and honeybee swarms. This growing workload has prompted specialized training for personnel in animal handling techniques, including snake identification and safe capture, to ensure both animal welfare and public safety.
