PFRDA Eyes Direct Investment in Infrastructure Projects by Pension Funds

The Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) is exploring a roadmap to allow its regulated entities to invest directly in large infrastructure projects. Currently, investments are made through ReITS, InVITS, and alternate investment funds. Chairman S Raman stated that a committee is examining this, with potential implementation in about five years. Globally, pension funds like Canada's are known for direct infrastructure investments. Financial services secretary Sanjay Lohiya expressed hope that growing pension funds will provide crucial long-term capital for infrastructure development.
