Durga Idol Immersed Without Rituals After Stampede Claims 19 Lives

Hindustan Times · india

The Durga idol of Chorbagan Sarbojanin Puja was immersed in the Hooghly River a week after a stampede at the pandal claimed 19 lives. The farewell ceremony took place without the customary 'Debi Boron' and 'Sindoor Khela' rituals. The immersion was cleared by a retired judge, provided the main pandal structure was preserved for investigation. A large police contingent supervised the event, with no puja committee members present.
