A new Epoch AI publication reveals that the cost of achieving a fixed level of AI performance has fallen by approximately 47% each quarter, a 13-fold annual decline. This rate of cost reduction is significantly faster than that of DNA sequencing, lithium-ion batteries, and electricity. The research indicates that frontier AI capabilities initially depreciate fastest, with costs falling about 66% per quarter before slowing.
