A member of the Durga Puja organizing committee, Sanjib Raha, has been arrested in Kolkata for allegedly announcing that the Chor Bagan pandal was about to collapse. This announcement is suspected to have triggered panic and a fatal stampede on October 17, resulting in 19 deaths. Visitors were using a narrow ramp to view the idol, and the panic-induced rush towards the exit caused the crush. A Special Investigation Team is probing the incident, identifying a dimly lit, narrow exit as a concern. Nine arrests have been made so far.
