Dog Feces Can Produce Hydrogen and Methane, But Single-Stage Processing is More Economical
Hindustan Times · science
Scientists have explored using dog feces to generate energy through biological waste processing, aiming to address urban waste challenges. A study published in the Biochemical Engineering Journal compared single-stage and two-stage processing methods for producing hydrogen and methane. Researchers found that while a two-stage process could yield both fuels, single-stage processing of untreated wet dog feces proved to be the most economical option. Methane accounted for over 85% of the recovered energy, making hydrogen recovery less efficient due to additional costs.
