Police from Odisha and Andhra Pradesh clashed at the inter-State border on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, over jurisdictional claims to the Kotia villages. Andhra Pradesh intended to conduct local body elections in the region on November 5, a move Odisha opposed, citing a Supreme Court status quo order from 2006. Odisha officials stated that Andhra Pradesh was attempting to create a constitutional crisis by holding elections within Odisha's territory. The Koraput District Collector imposed prohibitory orders across the 21 Kotia villages to prevent further escalation.
