Centre: Low Output, Festive Demand Hike Sugar Prices

Average retail sugar prices surged from ₹48.18 per kg in July to ₹58.20 per kg in August, according to consumer affairs ministry data. The Centre stated that low production output and increased festive demand, not ethanol production, are the primary reasons for this price hike. The government is implementing measures to prevent hoarding and control the escalating costs of this essential commodity.

उपभोक्ता मामलों के मंत्रालय के आंकड़ों के अनुसार, जुलाई में ₹48.18 प्रति किलो से बढ़कर अगस्त में खुदरा चीनी की औसत कीमत ₹58.20 प्रति किलो हो गई। केंद्र सरकार ने बताया कि उत्पादन कम होने और त्योहारी मांग बढ़ने के कारण कीमतें बढ़ी हैं, न कि इथेनॉल उत्पादन से। सरकार जमाखोरी रोकने और इस जरूरी चीज की बढ़ती कीमतों को नियंत्रित करने के लिए कदम उठा रही है।
