Police investigating an alleged NEET-MBBS admission scam involving fake certificates have stated that admission consultancy firms, not coaching centres, are at the heart of the racket. Twelve people have been arrested so far in connection with the case. The alleged mastermind Rupesh Pandit ran an admission consultancy firm in Meerut, while his associate Dheeraj Kumar Srivastava operated a similar firm in Bhopal. These firms allegedly exploited quotas like freedom fighters' dependents and reserved categories, with deals reportedly costing up to Rs 45 lakh per student for MBBS admissions.
