The Indian government will provide financial assistance covering up to 50% of the drilling costs for deep-sea oil and gas exploration wells. This initiative, part of the 'Samudra Manthan' scheme with a budget of ₹84,084 crore, aims to boost domestic reserves and reduce import dependency. Companies will repay the assistance if exploration is successful, while the government absorbs losses if no resources are found. The scheme will support drilling 60 wells in deep and ultra-deep sea areas until FY31, with specific funding limits per well.
