Kerala Government Plans To Reduce School Bag Weight

The Kerala government is preparing to reduce the weight of school bags for students. A meeting is scheduled for to discuss measures, including potentially printing textbooks on a monthly or bi-monthly basis to lessen the load. This initiative aligns with the National Education Policy 2020, which stipulates that a school bag should not exceed 10% of a child's body weight. The state education minister confirmed that lighter paper for textbooks is also being considered.

केरल सरकार छात्रों के लिए स्कूल बैग का वज़न कम करने की तैयारी कर रही है। वज़न कम करने के उपायों पर चर्चा के लिए एक बैठक निर्धारित है, जिसमें किताबों को मासिक या द्विमासिक आधार पर छापने की संभावना भी शामिल है। यह पहल National Education Policy 2020 के अनुरूप है, जिसमें कहा गया है कि स्कूल बैग का वज़न बच्चे के शरीर के वज़न के 10% से ज़्यादा नहीं होना चाहिए। राज्य के शिक्षा मंत्री ने पुष्टि की है कि किताबों के लिए हल्के कागज़ पर भी विचार किया जा रहा है।
