Agnipath Scheme Revised: All Agniveers to Join Regular Cadre After Six Years

Business Standard · india

The Indian government has revised the Agnipath scheme, allowing all Agniveers to be absorbed into the regular military cadre. Initially, 25% were retained after four years, but now the remaining 75% can also be absorbed after an additional two-year engagement period. This change requires Agniveers to be willing, physically fit, and disciplined. The decision aims to provide a pathway for all recruits to become permanent soldiers, addressing concerns about the scheme's long-term prospects and ensuring seniority is protected for those absorbed later.
