Indian Pilots Face Fatigue Risks During Night Duties, Review Finds

Times of India · india

A review by the Safety Matters Foundation suggests that approximately 63 out of 100 Indian pilots may experience sleepiness upon landing after a legally permitted 10-hour night duty. The study aimed to assess if India's pilot working hour regulations ensure sufficient alertness for safe flights, particularly during night and late evening operations. While India's rules handle deep-night duties well, daytime regulations allow longer shifts without extra safeguards. The findings align with pilot reports of fatigue, indicating that current rules may not adequately account for biological clock and sleep debt.
