US Lawmakers Urge Rubio to Question India Over Protest Handling

Six U.S. Democratic lawmakers have urged Secretary of State Marco Rubio to raise concerns with Indian officials regarding the alleged excessive use of force against student protesters. The lawmakers cited protests against former Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and ongoing demonstrations seeking the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar as examples. They also accused the Indian Embassy and consulates of surveilling protesters. Mr. Rubio is scheduled to visit India next week and meet with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar in Mumbai.
