The Supreme Court has directed Indian Railways to extend insurance coverage to all train tickets purchased at station counters from October 27, 2026. This brings offline bookings under the same insurance framework as online reservations, which currently offer up to ₹10 lakh for death or permanent total disability. The court emphasized that there should be no distinction between passengers based on their ticket purchase method. सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने भारतीय रेलवे को 27 अक्टूबर 2026 से स्टेशन काउंटर पर खरीदे गए सभी ट्रेन टिकटों पर बीमा कवरेज का विस्तार करने का निर्देश दिया है। इससे ऑफलाइन बुकिंग भी उसी बीमा ढांचे के तहत आ जाएंगी जो ऑनलाइन आरक्षण के लिए है, जिसमें वर्तमान में मृत्यु या स्थायी पूर्ण विकलांगता के लिए ₹10 लाख तक का कवरेज मिलता है। अदालत ने इस बात पर जोर दिया कि यात्रियों के बीच उनके टिकट खरीदने के तरीके के आधार पर कोई भेदभाव नहीं होना चाहिए। इस निर्देश का उद्देश्य यात्रियों की सुरक्षा और वित्तीय सुरक्षा को बढ़ाना है, खासकर उन लाखों लोगों के लिए जो सस्ती यात्रा के लिए रेलवे पर निर्भर हैं।
