Orangutan Blood Samples Sent To ZSI For Analysis

Five rescued orangutans at Nandankanan Zoological Park will have their blood samples sent to the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) for genotype analysis. This taxonomic study aims to trace their place of origin and native habitat, aiding investigations into a suspected wildlife trafficking network. The analysis will help match their genetic makeup with existing ZSI samples. However, the sampling is delayed as three orangutans have low haemoglobin levels, requiring them to recover before blood can be drawn. Efforts are also underway to improve their nutrition and health.
