Chinese-Linked Hackers Used AI Tool to Compromise ConnectWise, Target Hundreds Globally

A Chinese-linked hacking group, identified by Microsoft as Storm-0940, has compromised IT services firm ConnectWise using an AI-driven penetration testing tool called ARTEX. This campaign targeted hundreds of organizations globally across diverse sectors including aerospace, defense, and finance. While most attacks were unsuccessful, the group achieved privileged cloud persistence at many organizations, gaining high-level access. Beijing regularly denies conducting or condoning cyber-enabled data theft.
