Madras HC Denies Eviction Protection to Tenant with Unregistered Rent Agreement

Times of India - Business · business

The Madras High Court has ruled that a tenant cannot claim protection from eviction based solely on an unregistered rent agreement. The court stated that the occupant must first establish a valid landlord-tenant relationship. In this case, the tenant failed to prove the existence of such a relationship or provide details like rent amount or tenancy duration. Without this proof, the court considered the tenant to be in unauthorized possession, denying their plea for an injunction against the property owner.
