Supreme Court Seeks Extension For Tribunal Members

The Supreme Court has urged the Centre to consider extending the tenure of retiring tribunal members for about a month until new appointments are made. This aims to prevent quasi-judicial bodies from becoming defunct due to vacancies. The Centre stated that fresh appointment processes are underway, with 248 members already found eligible for extension under the Tribunal Reforms Act, 2026.

सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने केंद्र से कहा है कि रिटायर हो रहे ट्रिब्यूनल सदस्यों का कार्यकाल एक महीने के लिए बढ़ाया जाए, जब तक नए लोगों की नियुक्ति नहीं हो जाती। इससे खाली पदों के कारण ये अर्ध-न्यायिक संस्थाएं बंद नहीं होंगी। केंद्र ने बताया कि नई नियुक्तियों की प्रक्रिया चल रही है और Tribunal Reforms Act, 2026 के तहत 248 सदस्यों को विस्तार के लिए योग्य पाया गया है।
