इस साल हिमाचल प्रदेश में सेब उत्पादन में भारी 48% की गिरावट आई है, जिससे पिछले साल के 2.18 करोड़ बॉक्स की तुलना में बाज़ारों तक केवल 1.15 करोड़ बॉक्स ही पहुँच पाए हैं। जलवायु परिवर्तन, बेमौसम बारिश और ओलावृष्टि ने फ़सल को बुरी तरह प्रभावित किया है, जिससे कुल उत्पादन का अनुमान केवल 1.5 करोड़ बॉक्स रह गया है। यह गिरावट राज्य की ₹5,000 करोड़ की सेब अर्थव्यवस्था के लिए एक बड़ा संकट पैदा कर रही है, जिससे इसकी खेती पर निर्भर लगभग 2.5 लाख परिवार प्रभावित हुए हैं। सरकार प्रभावित बागवानों को राहत देने के लिए मार्केट इंटरवेंशन स्कीम के तहत खरीद मूल्य बढ़ाने पर विचार कर रही है।
