Ghosting Hurts More Than Recipients Realise, New Psychology Study Finds

Times of India · science

A new psychology study reveals that individuals who ghost others may experience more negative emotions, such as guilt and sadness, than the person being ignored realizes. Research published in Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin found that ghosted individuals often underestimate the emotional distress of the person who stopped responding. In one study, those who ghosted reported feeling worse than recipients estimated. Even a brief message like 'Sorry, can't talk now' can mitigate negative feelings and improve recipients' interpretation of the silence, reducing self-blame.
