Economic Times Markets · stocks
The Indian stock market experienced a significant downturn on Monday, with both Sensex and Nifty sliding over 1%. This decline was driven by strong selling in heavyweight private banks and other factors, spooking investors. The Sensex dropped nearly 900 points to close at 73,853, while the Nifty 50 fell below 22,900. This selloff erased approximately Rs 5 lakh crore from the market value of BSE-listed companies. Weak global cues and investor caution ahead of corporate earnings also contributed to the market's pressure.
