CJI Surya Kant Secures Release of Lawyers Detained During CJP Protest Crackdown

Several lawyers were reportedly detained in Delhi on Saturday during a crackdown on a protest by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) against alleged electoral roll irregularities. The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) president flagged the detentions, describing them as alarming. Chief Justice of India Surya Kant promptly intervened, directing the release of the detained advocates. The SCBA president later confirmed their release and urged authorities to respect the dignity and independence of the Bar.

शनिवार को दिल्ली में कॉकरोच जनता पार्टी (सीजेपी) द्वारा कथित चुनावी सूची की अनियमितताओं के खिलाफ विरोध प्रदर्शन के दौरान की गई कार्रवाई में कई वकीलों को हिरासत में लिया गया था। सुप्रीम कोर्ट बार एसोसिएशन (एससीबीए) के अध्यक्ष ने इन गिरफ्तारियों को चिंताजनक बताया। भारत के मुख्य न्यायाधीश सूर्यकांत ने तुरंत हस्तक्षेप किया और हिरासत में लिए गए वकीलों को रिहा करने का निर्देश दिया। एससीबीए के अध्यक्ष ने बाद में उनकी रिहाई की पुष्टि की और अधिकारियों से बार की गरिमा और स्वतंत्रता का सम्मान करने का आग्रह किया।
