All-rounder Dhananjaya de Silva has resigned as Sri Lanka's Test captain with immediate effect. Appointed in January 2024, de Silva believes it is time to hand over leadership to the next generation, though he will continue as a player. During his 18-Test tenure, Sri Lanka won 7 matches. De Silva's captaincy saw mixed results, including series wins against Bangladesh and New Zealand, but also losses to South Africa and India. The team's next Test assignment is against Pakistan in November, with a new captain yet to be announced.
