Satpura Reserve Barasingha Population Surpasses 300 After Decade-Long Reintroduction Effort
Times of India · environment
A decade after the Madhya Pradesh forest department began reintroducing the endangered hard-ground barasingha into Satpura Tiger Reserve, their population has now exceeded 300 individuals. This successful conservation effort has established three distinct population units across the landscape. The next phase will focus on creating dedicated corridors to link at least six grasslands, facilitating movement between feeding and breeding habitats. This recovery is crucial for the species' long-term survival, reducing risks associated with relying on a single stronghold like Kanha Tiger Reserve.
