Times of India · interesting
A man purchased a box of 22 old medals for just £25 at a car-boot sale in West Yorkshire. One of these medals was identified as a rare 1779 commemorative piece honouring Captain James Cook. Specialists estimated its value between £3,000 and £4,000, but it ultimately sold for £5,000 at auction. The buyer also sold the remaining 21 medals for £500. The rare medal was acquired by the Captain Cook Memorial Museum in Whitby, which plans to exhibit it in 2028.
