Official Facing Fraud Probe To Share Stage With Governor At Convocation

An official from Sido Kanhu Murmu University (SKMU), Basant Kumar Gupta, who is facing proceedings for alleged fraudulent withdrawals from the Jharkhand Academic Council Fund, is expected to attend the university's 10th convocation. Gupta, the humanities dean, will reportedly share the dais with governor-cum-chancellor Santosh Kumar Gangwar. Proceedings against Gupta, ordered in October 2026 and April 2023, remain inconclusive despite a syndicate resolution to lodge an FIR and suspend involved officials. A review meeting later overturned this decision by majority vote, with the governor's nominee dissenting.
