Vitamin D Deficiency Linked to Heart Cell Damage in New NIN Study
The Hindu · india
A new study by the ICMR-National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) suggests that Vitamin D deficiency can damage heart cells by impairing the body's defence against stress. Researchers found that low Vitamin D levels increased oxidative stress in heart tissue, leading to cardiac cell death in rat models. The study indicated that Vitamin D deficiency weakens a critical cellular defence pathway. While promising, scientists caution that further human studies are needed to confirm these findings for people.
