The United Nations climate convention’s Loss and Damage Fund has allocated $21.6 million to Nepal to address damages from the August Bhotekoshi floods. This marks the first time the Fund, established in 2022, has earmarked money for a specific country. The amount is a small fraction of Nepal's estimated $5 billion loss. The decision comes ahead of the COP31 climate conference in Turkey. Nepal's government had requested rapid and direct response from the Fund's Board.
