Madurai's Rs 2,400cr Sewer Revamp to Use PPP

Madurai Corporation's Rs 2,400 crore plan to revamp its underground sewerage network will now be executed through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. This shift from the initial government-funded EPC model aims to reduce the financial burden on the corporation. A private firm will handle financing, construction, and long-term maintenance of the aging sewer lines. The project will replace 40-year-old pipelines and strengthen pumping systems, addressing recurring sewage overflow issues for residents. This approach is commonly used by the Greater Chennai Corporation.

मदुरै कॉर्पोरेशन की ₹2,400 करोड़ की अंडरग्राउंड सीवरेज नेटवर्क को ठीक करने की योजना अब पब्लिक-प्राइवेट पार्टनरशिप (PPP) मॉडल के ज़रिए पूरी की जाएगी। पहले सरकारी फंड से EPC मॉडल पर काम होना था, लेकिन अब इस बदलाव से कॉर्पोरेशन पर पैसों का बोझ कम होगा। एक प्राइवेट कंपनी पैसों का इंतज़ाम, निर्माण और पुरानी सीवर लाइनों के लंबे समय तक रखरखाव का काम देखेगी। इस प्रोजेक्ट में 40 साल पुरानी पाइपलाइनों को बदला जाएगा और पंपिंग सिस्टम को मज़बूत किया जाएगा, जिससे लोगों को बार-बार होने वाली सीवेज ओवरफ्लो की परेशानी से निजात मिलेगी। Greater Chennai Corporation भी अक्सर इसी तरीके का इस्तेमाल करती है।
