GST Council May Cut Refund Processing Time to 17 Days

The GST Council is set to propose reducing GST refund processing time to approximately 17 days, including a 10-day acknowledgement period and seven days for processing. This aims to expedite refunds, as current acknowledgement can take 21-45 days. The council will also discuss automating GST registration to reduce processing time for the remaining 39% of applications. Additionally, proposals include simplifying registration for small businesses operating across multiple states and moving towards a trust-based system for registration cancellations by removing physical verification requirements.
