BBC Hindi · india
Several journalists were detained in Delhi over the weekend while covering protests related to the Chief Election Commissioner's resignation. Reporters from various outlets, including Navbharat Times, Scroll, and The Indian Express, were taken into custody, with some alleging physical manhandling. Although later released, the detentions occurred shortly after the Supreme Court emphasized that professionals like journalists should not be obstructed from performing their duties. The Indian Constitution guarantees freedom of expression and press under Article 19(1)(a), protecting journalists' right to report and question those in power.
