India is prioritizing subsidies for mature semiconductor nodes, ranging from 28nm to 180nm, instead of pursuing advanced 2-nanometer chips. Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology Secretary S. Krishnan stated that cutting-edge manufacturing is currently too expensive and beyond the country's industrial capabilities. India's strategy aims for sovereign autonomy by building domestic capacity in essential technologies. This approach focuses on "reasonable bets" that will yield returns and gradually build a robust semiconductor ecosystem.

भारत अब 28nm से 180nm तक के पुराने सेमीकंडक्टर चिप्स पर सब्सिडी देने को प्राथमिकता दे रहा है, न कि 2nm जैसी एडवांस चिप्स पर। इलेक्ट्रॉनिक्स और सूचना प्रौद्योगिकी मंत्रालय के सचिव एस. कृष्णन ने कहा कि बहुत एडवांस चिप्स बनाना अभी बहुत महंगा है और देश की क्षमता से बाहर है। भारत का लक्ष्य घरेलू क्षमता बढ़ाकर आत्मनिर्भर बनना है। यह रणनीति ऐसे "समझदारी भरे दांव" पर केंद्रित है जिनसे फायदा हो और धीरे-धीरे एक मजबूत सेमीकंडक्टर इकोसिस्टम बने।
