Govt Response on Illegal Detentions Ready, Needs Fine-Tuning: Supreme Court Told

The Union government informed the Supreme Court on Tuesday that its response to petitions alleging illegal detentions and transport clampdowns in Delhi on October 10 is ready but requires further refinement. A three-judge Bench extended the deadline for the government to file its reply affidavit to Thursday, October 15. The court also agreed to urgently hear fresh petitions concerning police action against journalists covering protests, despite a previous order. Separately, a petition was mentioned regarding an incident involving Opposition leaders at the Supreme Court Registry.

केंद्र सरकार ने मंगलवार को सुप्रीम कोर्ट को सूचित किया कि 10 अक्टूबर को दिल्ली में अवैध हिरासत और परिवहन प्रतिबंधों के आरोपों वाली याचिकाओं पर उसका जवाब तैयार है, लेकिन इसमें और सुधार की आवश्यकता है। तीन जजों की पीठ ने सरकार को अपना जवाब हलफनामा दाखिल करने की समय सीमा बढ़ाकर गुरुवार, 15 अक्टूबर कर दी। अदालत ने पहले के आदेश के बावजूद, विरोध प्रदर्शनों को कवर करने वाले पत्रकारों के खिलाफ पुलिस कार्रवाई से संबंधित नई याचिकाओं पर तत्काल सुनवाई के लिए भी सहमति व्यक्त की। अलग से, सुप्रीम कोर्ट रजिस्ट्री में विपक्षी नेताओं से जुड़े एक मामले के संबंध में एक याचिका का उल्लेख किया गया।
