Tata Motors has overtaken Mahindra & Mahindra to become India's second-largest passenger vehicle manufacturer based on domestic dispatches during the first half of FY27. Tata's dispatches surged 43% to over 3.9 lakh units from April to September 2026, while Mahindra's reached just under 3.6 lakh units with approximately 20% growth. This shift occurred despite Mahindra seeing strong demand for its electric SUVs, with combined dispatches of its BE and XEV models jumping 82%. Tata's utility vehicle segment also saw a significant 59% surge, contributing to its regained market position.
