Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, P K Mishra, stated that export restrictions, sanctions, and tariffs are increasingly used as instruments of economic policy, sometimes even weaponised. Addressing the Kautilya Economic Conclave, he highlighted how wars disrupt energy and food markets, making shipping routes vulnerable. Mishra noted India's vulnerability as a major energy importer and detailed the nation's multi-layered response, including diversifying crude oil suppliers from 27 to 43 countries. He also emphasized the importance of domestic capacity in renewables and critical minerals for reducing external shocks.
