Congress Leader Demands Local Body Polls With 27% OBC Quota
Times of India · politics
Congress Legislature Party Leader Vijay Wadettiwar has urged the Maharashtra government to hold local body elections by assuming a 27% quota for Other Backward Classes (OBCs). He warned of significant seat losses for OBCs in zilla parishads and panchayat samitis if this quota is not implemented, estimating a loss of 3,000 to 4,000 seats. Wadettiwar cited recent gram panchayat polls as evidence of the damage already incurred. He suggested delaying elections until empirical data is ready or a census is completed, accusing the current government of being anti-OBC.
