Australian Engineers Use 3 Million Face Masks For Road Base
Times of India · science
Australian engineers have developed a method to repurpose discarded single-use face masks by mixing them with processed building rubble for road bases. Research conducted in 2021 by RMIT University found that a one-kilometre, two-lane road could utilize approximately 3 million masks, diverting 93 tonnes of waste from landfills. Tests confirmed the resulting material meets civil engineering standards for road construction. This innovative approach addresses the growing waste problem from both disposable masks and construction debris.
