Expert Warns of Bird Deaths From High-Tension Wires and Windmills

Hindustan Times · environment

Ornithologist Asad Rahmani highlights that habitat destruction and deterioration are major drivers of bird decline in India. He points out that high-tension wires and windmills now kill millions of birds annually, including cranes, bustards, and eagles, with many deaths going undetected. Rahmani suggests solutions like coloring windmill blades and using bird deflectors on wires to minimize fatalities. He also notes that glass buildings pose a significant threat, causing birds to collide with reflective panes. The expert hopes his book will influence policy changes to protect avian populations.
