Kedarnath Generates Record Waste From Pilgrims

Kedarnath generated approximately 20 metric tonnes of plastic waste between April and August 2026 due to a surge in pilgrims. Of this substantial amount, 18.5 tonnes, representing 92.5 per cent, has been processed. However, around 1.5 tonnes of waste still remains, highlighting the ongoing challenge of managing environmental impact in popular pilgrimage sites. This situation underscores the strain on Himalayan ecosystems from increased tourism and the need for effective waste management strategies.

अप्रैल से अगस्त 2026 के बीच केदारनाथ में तीर्थयात्रियों की भारी भीड़ के कारण करीब 20 मीट्रिक टन प्लास्टिक कचरा पैदा हुआ। इसमें से 18.5 टन, यानी 92.5% कचरे को प्रोसेस किया जा चुका है। लेकिन, अभी भी लगभग 1.5 टन कचरा बचा है। यह लोकप्रिय तीर्थ स्थलों पर पर्यावरण प्रबंधन की चुनौती को दिखाता है।
