TV9 Hindi · politics

In Indian democracy, both MLAs and MLCs hold significant state-level roles, but their election processes and tenures differ substantially. MLAs are directly elected by the public for a five-year term, after which the assembly dissolves. Conversely, MLCs are indirectly elected by a special college comprising MLAs, local body members, graduates, and teachers, with some nominated by the governor. The Legislative Council, where MLCs serve, is a permanent house, with MLCs having a six-year term and one-third retiring every two years.
