Uttar Pradesh Bans 'Puja Ghee', Mandates Consumption Warnings
Business Standard · india
Uttar Pradesh has banned the manufacture, storage, and sale of products marketed as 'puja ghee'. The state's Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) issued a directive on October 10, instructing food operators to stop selling these items. The action follows concerns that some ritual products contain non-edible substances like vanaspati, refined oils, paraffin, or mineral oil, which can be mistaken for edible ghee. Retail packs of non-edible products must now carry a mandatory 'Not for Human Consumption' warning in Hindi and English, along with a specific symbol.
