Tamil Nadu Orders Audit of Ambulance Services

Tamil Nadu's health department is conducting a third-party audit of its 108-ambulance service finances and operations before renewing the contract. IIT-Madras and the National Institute of Epidemiology are undertaking the audit, which will examine recurring expenditures including operator costs. Discussions involving the finance secretary are underway to determine rates for the next agreement. The audit findings will be reviewed by a committee before finalising the arrangement, expected by February 2027. The current system includes 1,357 ambulances and an integrated call centre.
