Civil society groups, including Janandolan Maha Maitri and Citizens for Democracy, have demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. They are also calling for an independent Supreme Court-monitored investigation into the Centre's role in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. S.R. Hiremath alleged that the SIR exercise and the 2023 appointment law raise constitutional concerns, potentially leading to voter exclusion. The groups seek restoration of electoral rolls and a review of recent elections.
