Scotland Restores Historic Railway Viaduct, Creating Bat Roosts

Times of India - India · india

Scotland's Westfield Viaduct, originally built between 1854 and 1855, has undergone a £2 million restoration project. The work focused on repairing its historic stonework and waterproofing the structure, which stands approximately 60 feet high. Engineers took measures to protect wildlife, incorporating permanent roosting spaces for bats into the viaduct's masonry. The restoration, completed in December 2022, preserved the landmark, which once carried the Monkland Railway extension before its closure in 1964, as a piece of Scotland's industrial heritage.
