D V Shankar Rao, a 73-year-old retired banker from Telangana, has achieved remarkable success in national powerlifting competitions just six months after joining a gym. A decade after undergoing heart bypass surgery, he never imagined becoming a competitive athlete. In Kozhikode, he secured gold medals in squat, bench press, and deadlift, along with the overall National Masters Classic title. Rao's journey began after his 2012 surgery, and despite initial reluctance, he discovered a new passion and energy, proving age and medical history are no barriers to athletic achievement.
