Gauhati University Student Found Dead, Boyfriend Detained

A 21-year-old Gauhati University student, Nimisha Thakuria, was discovered deceased at a homestay in Guwahati on Friday night. Her death has sparked protests and a blockade of NH-17, disrupting traffic to the airport. Thakuria's father reported she had called her mother alleging assault before her phone was switched off. The boyfriend, Ashiq Ali, claims she hanged herself, but police are investigating further, including the post-mortem report. Ali is currently in custody as the investigation continues.
