The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured the Nagaon Lok Sabha seat in central Assam, marking their return to the constituency after seven years. Candidate Devasish Sharma won with nearly 50% of the votes, defeating AIUDF chief Mohammed Badruddin Ajmal by a margin of 1,41,916 votes. This victory is significant as it demonstrates the BJP's success in gaining support from Muslim-majority areas, previously dominated by minority-based parties. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted this as proof that their development politics under Prime Minister Modi is resonating widely.
