Geologist Finds Ancient Mastodon Tooth In California Creek
Times of India · science
A California geologist discovered an unusual object protruding from a creek bed during a habitat restoration project. A Google reverse image search suggested it was an Ice Age mastodon tooth, which was later confirmed by a paleontologist. The upper left molar, identified as belonging to a Pacific mastodon, is estimated to be at least 10,000 years old and is remarkably complete. Researchers at Stanford University will now analyze the fossil to learn more about its age, the ancient animal, and its environment.
